SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS: many people wonder what the true source of a company\’s success is. This search can sometimes be complicated without truly innovative and smart business ideas.

To understand how companies have come up with successful concepts, it is necessary to study the idea and philosophy embraced by the founders.

Today, we\’re going to look at how these two companies set out to think about their business ideas. Then they validated them, and continued to grow into the successful companies that they are today!

SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS: SLACK THE COMMUNITY FOR PROFESSIONALS

For a growing number of professionals starting a Slack community was a great strategic choice. Slack is an instant messaging platform. It going along the same lines as GChat, which has seen exponential growth since its inception in 2014.

In fact, a recent VentureBeat article cited a daily active user count of around four million. Slack brings back the best of old-school online chat rooms. But it adds more control over who gets in and what they can access. People can create public channels based on a given topic. Also can talk privately in a group, or exchange direct messages, all for free.

FOURSQUARE, AN INNOVATIVE IDEA FOR SUCCESS

When Foursquare launched in 2009, CEO Dennis Crowley noticed that something special was happening. Although they had thousands of users and were poised for growth, some of them were doing incredible things. They contributing hundreds of edits at a time and spending hours each week on the app.

Crowley realized that they would need to recognize and engage these users right away. So he created a special design for them and gave them the tools to connect with each other. These became Foursquare\’s super users.

Investing in Foursquare\’s early users and expert users was a huge strategic goal for the team. So they decided last year to separate the app into two separate apps to better serve their users. Through all of the growth and change (between January 2010 and April 2011, the user base grew from 250,000 to 8 million), their super users stayed by their side, growing and scaling with them. Today, there are over 40,000 superusers.

What is the strength of these two successful companies?

For most of history, companies were limited to working only with people who lived in close geographic proximity.

Today, companies of all shapes and sizes have the opportunity to sell their services to people in the nearest city as well as around the world. The Web offers incredible opportunities to increase revenue and boost profits.

In fact, to maximize reach, organizations must think beyond communicating only in their native language. After all, Asia, Europe, Latin America/Caribbean, and Africa each have more Internet users than North America.

Here\’s an important truth: A hallmark of many successful businesses today is the ability to communicate in more than one language with their customers. Your website or app is the perfect starting point. There are many advantages to having a multilingual website.
